Bob is still counting down the Top Country Top 40.
Original American Country Countdown Demo
Bob also did a rock show for AFRTS, if you've never heard him hitting the posts on a Deep Purple record, you've never lived.

We were still running The FBI In Peace and War in 1976. This is from Rand's Oldtime Radio. Incredible transfers
FBI In Peace And War "Out Of Retirement" 1957
Stay Tuna'd!
Here's a great mid 1970s Charlie Tuna show. Since it's pre 1976 it has a systems cue and everything.

MARY TURNER
Mary Turner had a great career as a jock and interviewer, we ran her AFRTS-LA show and heor syndicated "Off the Record" show. From there she went on to big things:
Dr. Mary Turner Pattiz (CGI Psy.D. ’08)
From the mid ‘70s to the early ‘90s, Mary Turner was the most popular
female air personality on contemporary music radio. She was the
highest-rated disc jockey on L.A.’s legendary KMET, the host of “Off The
Record,” Westwood One’s nationally syndicated interview show, which aired
on more than 300 stations weekly, and the host of the “Mary Turner Show”
on Armed Forces Radio. After leaving radio in 1994, Dr. Pattiz attended
UCLA where she became a certified drug and alcohol counselor and began
working in the field of substance abuse. She received a Doctor of
Psychology degree from the California Graduate Institute—now affiliated
with The Chicago School—in 2008. Today she continues to be active in the
field as a counselor and group leader and serves on the boards of DARE,
the Musicians Assistance Program, Cedars-Sinai Medial Center’s COACH for
Kids, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' MusiCares, the
Betty Ford Center, and the Betty Ford Institute. Dr. Pattiz is married to
Norman Pattiz, founder and chairman of Westwood One Companies, and lives
in Beverly Hills and Santa Barbara
One of the surprises of listening to these guys is how professional and consistant the AFRTS talent were. Listen to a broadcast, then listen to one from 10-20 years later and the pieces fit together. Amazing talent.
TOM CAMPBELL
le
Tom Campbell was another one with a huge run between San Francisco and Los Angeles, with a long run on AFRTS. But what of Cal Stereo? Who was Cal Stereo?

COMING:
The closing of AFN Bremerhaven 1993
Don Tracy had an incredible presence that he brought to his long running soul show of Armed Forces Radio.
Here's some great audio fom the station at Kagnew, nice pages too..
And more great memories, from Clark Air Base
So where do these things come from? A LOT of places, if I find something interesting in a junk shop, how it gets a new home. A lot of people recorded AFRTS off the air, sometimes I'm lucky enough to get copies. These things really need to be shared. If you have disks or cassettes, I'd be happy to digitize them for you.
FEN 1962
Macabre was produced by FEN Tokyo in 1961/62. William Verdier was the writer, producer and director. John Buey was the program director of FEN since the network began in 1946. The series was the winner of an informal competion between FEN and AFN. Eight episodes were produced.
JOE ALLISON
Nashville legend Joe Allsion returns for another visit from the Country Corner. Mr Allison was a songwriter, promoter and a record company executive and was credited by many with being he first Modern Country DJ
CHARLIE TUNA
I'm lucky enough to have a lot of Charlie Tuna AFRTS airchecks. For a lot of people the "Charlie Tuna Show" was AFTRS. Charlie recorded these shows for us for 25 years. Thanks for the memories..
And Now A Word from our local Affiliate...
And now the overnight show from Pleiku
Of course AFRTS had a long history of quality programmming, even before the 1970s. In the 1950s and 60s Andy and Virginia Mansfield were Vaudeville veterans and the first couple to perform on television for Mutual Don Lee Broadcasting in 1937. During the 1950s and 60s they did Turn Back the Clock.
In those pre-Beatles and even pre-twist years there WAS such a thing as oldies.
AFN35th anniversary, this just came in and is great
JIM PEWTER
Jim always had such an amazing way of programming a show
The recording is from the SHAPE network. Someone does a PSA at the end with the oddest accent I've ever
It's pretty amazing to me how great these folks were. Here it is 20, sometimes 40 years later and if I can locate them I ask if it's alright to relive a broadcast here. No one has ever said "no". Class acts. Thank you.
Thanks for stopping by. What I try to do here is two things
a. Show how great the AFRTS-LA jocks werehe week
b. Bring a little piece of home to folks that wore the uniform
A listener in Australia sent me this, copied from a low generation reel tape. He asked me about it's origin. I hear tracks from several different packages. Can you remember which ones???
